Beaten Unconscious

Officer Lawrence responded on May 10, 2008 at 11:22 p.m. to the Go Mart in the 3500 block of Williamson Road regarding a disorder. Mary Gilkes, age 50 of Roanoke, who gave a description of two suspects was assaulted by Dantonio Terrell Foster, age 25 of Roanoke. Officer B.L. Lawrence saw the suspects in a vehicle at the intersection of Huntington Boulevard and Hillcrest Avenue. Officer Lawrence stopped the vehicle at 11:34 p.m. on Huntington Boulevard and the suspects fled on foot. Officer Lawrence was in the process of apprehending Foster when he was assaulted by the second suspect later identified as William Steele Jr., age 18 of Roanoke. Officers who were responding to assist Officer Lawrence located him in the 3400 block of Hillcrest Avenue. He was unconscious and transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mr. Foster was later apprehended at the intersection of Queen Avenue and Lynhurst Street. He has been charged with malicious wounding of Ms. Gilkes and felony obstruction of justice. Mr. Steele was later apprehended by a police K-9 in the 900 block of Greenhurst Avenue. He has been charged with malicious wounding of a police officer and felony obstruction of justice. Officer Lawrence remains hospitalized.

The department's 125th anniversary badge is featured in the middle. The posters sell for $10 each, with 100% of the profits benefiting Officer Lawrence.
